Story Development
I've decided the story will now focus primarily on how the main character hates noise and attempts to get away from it. It will end with him being somewhere peaceful and free from noise.
As I've been having trouble developing the story I'm now going to start designing and animating to see what ideas develop along with it.

Brainstorming Notes
Claustrophobia +
Agoraphobia Idea
It starts underground (claustrophobia). 2D animation style. (Deliberately narrow
view/screen of animation to enhance claustrophobic feeling.
Ends getting outside (agoraphobia). 3D environment.
Over populated industrial world set underground.
Focus on single main character suffers with claustrophobia.
Show emotion – sweating, eye movement, facial expressions
START:
Animation starts by showing apartments compact together, all
sounds coming from different windows. Zooms through window in the middle to the
main character.
Things that annoy main character: finger tapping, slurping
drink, scratching, loud talking/shouting, noisy eating (apples? Crisps?), heavy
breathing, dripping water, baby crying, pen clicking, ticking clock, hysterical
laughter, industrial sounds (gas hissing, clang of metal etc).
Close ups of all the annoying things that main character
focuses on.
Sound important! – Several different annoying things, move
from one to the other with the sound building up – then all together
linked/synced with annoying animations to form a sort of beat that drives the
main character crazy.
How does character escape to get outside or above ground?

Finds tunnel going up?
-
Washed out of a sewer pipe? – Onto a vast empty
plane? Comes out of pipe from a giant wall. Unable to climb back in (too high
up).

Being chased by something? Something sinister?
-
Trying to escape? Evacuate – some happens/ goes
wrong
-
Told to do go somewhere, ends up out of the
norm.
-
Could be something the character finds/possesses
that takes him away.
See character get washed through sewage pipes, could be top
down 2D style.
END:
See’s pipe in wall that goes off in both directions –
obvious where he came from and that he cant go back.
He looks away from wall and sees huge empty area – happy at
first rejoices and runs around in all the empty space.
Then gets lonely and misses old home (use seasons/weather to
show passage of time (day/night?)
Fat guy pops out the pipe too (who was annoying and driving
him crazy earlier)
They are glad to see each other
Then fat guy does his annoying thing (eating loudly)
Ends with close up of main characters face about to lose it
again.
